Crown Heights North

Crown Heights North is a Brooklyn neighborhood whose large-scale development was triggered by a variety of factors that included the opening of Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Bridge, along with various improvements in mass transit that facilitated ease of access to Manhattan. Featuring a diverse collection of row houses, mansions, and apartment houses, it offers an eclectic array of period revival styles. The Crown Heights North Association engaged GDPC to list a large swath of the neighborhood on the National Register of Historic Places in order to enable property owners to qualify for federal and state historic rehabilitation tax credits. Ultimately, GDPC's work on the project entailed research, survey and analysis of over 1,000 historic properties to form the Crown Heights North Historic District, bringing national attention to this architecturally and historically significant neighborhood.
